Outings can be as simple as movies at a local theatre or trips to Wal-Mart to stock up on supplies, to more elaborate excursions such as dinner at a restaurant and museum visit or a play at one of the many beautiful theatres in the Twin Cities. The Mall of America is 45 minutes from campus and is a popular weekend destination for shopping and eating. There are frequent trips to watch the many Minnesota professional sports teams (Timberwolves, Wild, Loons, Vikings, Lynx, and Twins) and lots of opportunities for outdoor recreation like biking, hiking trails, skiing, snowshoeing, fishing, etc.On campus, the Sports Complex is open for working out, three-on-three basketball, volleyball, open skating, soccer, and drone flying, etc. The Lower Hub has space to play foosball, pool, and ping pong, and the Parade Field is a popular spot for students to gather for their favorite yard games like spike ball, volleyball, badminton, frisbee, football, bean bags, etc. And of course, don't forget there are also frequent movies, bonfires, and game nights in the dorms too!

These programs incorporate individualized training from world-class college professors and Master Teachers as part of the student’s school day, along with performance opportunities at various concerts and competitions. While all of our students are required to take one arts elective each year, we find the majority of our students are eager to sing, act, dance, play an instrument, try the pottery wheel, learn to perfect their video skills, and more!Athletics at Shattuck-St. Mary’s (SSM) are internationally known programs for male and female student-athletes in grades 7-12.Our well-established Center of Excellence programs in hockey, soccer, golf, and figure skating combine elite-level training, development, and competition with the demanding academics of a college-prep school. Our goal is to develop great athletes that are also superb students and citizens of integrity.SSM’s unique approach emphasizes the fundamentals of skill development and execution, body conditioning, and tactics for physical and mental development. Our program includes a rigorous full-year schedule, with competition throughout the United States and Canada for all teams. Student-athletes are on the ice, the field, and the course six to seven days a week, and each participates in a year-round strength and conditioning program.

Summary: Our college preparatory program helps prepare you for the next step and your life beyond the Arch.During students’ junior and senior years, the college counselors work with students, individually and in groups, to move from the general to the specific in the college admissions process. Students are guided in selecting an appropriate range of college choices, completing the admissions process at those schools, and, ultimately, selecting which institution to attend.Students have access to a college admissions library with material from more than 1,500 institutions, computer software programs for test preparation, and financial aid information. The college counselors are available for conferences during Fall and Winter Family Weekends, and for individual appointments.JUNIOR YEARDuring Winter Term, students meet with the college counselors to discuss:College optionsAdmissions criteriaSAT/ACT scoresSources of informationInitial career thoughtsDuring Spring Term, students will be assigned a counselor and will discuss:Preliminary college listsLearning more about targeted schoolsSummer visit plansSENIOR YEARThe initial emphasis is on narrowing a student’s list of college choices in preparation for the application process itself. Each student’s college counselor oversees the application process. Assistance is also provided in scheduling college visits during Fall Break as well as admission interviews with area representatives. Students also meet with college admission representatives who visit SSM.Class of 2020College PlacementAmerican University (DC)Anahuac Mayab University (Mexico)Bemidji State University (MN)Boston College (MA)Bowling Green State University (OH)Bucknell University (PA)Carleton College (MN)Clark Atlanta University (GA)Coe College (IA)Colgate University (NY)College of St. Scholastica (MN)Drake University (IA)Duke University (NC)Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester (NY)Elmira College (NY)Emory University (GA)Florida Atlantic UniversityFordham University (NY)Franklin Pierce University (NH)George Mason University (VA)George Washington University (DC)Georgia Institute of TechnologyGonzaga University (WA)High Point University (NC)Indiana University-BloomingtonIowa State UniversityMacalester College (MN)Miami University (OH)Michigan State UniversityMinnesota State University-MankatoMinnesota State University-MoorheadMount St. Mary’s University (MD)New York Institute of TechnologyNew York UniversityOberlin College (OH)Pennsylvania State UniversityPresbyterian College (SC)Princeton UniversityQuinnipiac University (CT)Rochester Institute of Technology (NY)Savannah College of Art & Design (GA)School of Visual Arts (NY)Seattle Pacific University (WA)St. Olaf College (MN)Syracuse University (NY)Tufts University (MA)United States Air Force Academy (CO)United States Military Academy (NY)University of California-IrvineUniversity of California-San DiegoUniversity of ConnecticutUniversity of Denver (CO)University of MaineUniversity of Miami (FL)University of MichiganUniversity of Minnesota-DuluthUniversity of Minnesota-Twin CitiesUniversity of North Carolina-Chapel HillUniversity of North Carolina-CharlotteUniversity of North DakotaUniversity of Northwestern (MN)University of Portland (OR)University of Richmond (VA)University of Rochester (NY)University of South DakotaUniversity of Tampa (FL)University of Texas-DallasUniversity of TorontoUniversity of Toronto-MississaugaUniversity of Toronto-ScarboroughUniversity of Warwick (England)University of WashingtonUniversity of Wisconsin-MadisonUniversity of Wisconsin-MilwaukeeXavier University (OH)
